So you want to get to know me . . .
About Me
Hi! I'm Lisa
Raised in Red Deer, Alberta, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary in 2006 and am currently completing the Mastery Program with the Milan Art Institute. A lover of food, travel, nature, and relationships, I approach art as a central element of self-expression; the most beautiful thing to me is genuine self-expression. It is ever-changing for each individual and will never go out of style.
I have presented my work in several group, duo, and solo exhibits. As well, I have painted three indoor murals with my “Fire and Flo” creative collaborator, Erica Pang.
I currently live and paint at Coming Home Farm in Powell River, Canada.

There’s been no greater time to be a creator than today! In a time of chaos, a new wave of creatives rise up to offer new perspectives in an consciousness revolution. We are light warriors doing the work to bring ourselves back home … and in doing so, inspire others to do the same.
The rise of this fresh energy expanding light by strengthening from within is facilitating powerful change – a new world of lasting Unity, Peace & Love. And we’re creating it together!
Whether you’re an art lover, an established artist, or a creative at the beginning of your journey, my digital studio is also an online haven you can always visit when you want a little dose of colour and creativity – so you may take your own creative energy and express yourself fully.
Art is life and life is an Art – and when we can find our truest expression, we get in touch with our infinite inner power!

Artist Statement
Painting has been an aspect of my well-being for a long time. I first turned to art after a medical emergency in my late teen years. In. the aftermath, I was astounded by the capacity of art to help me cope with both my physical and emotional recovery; creating paintings taught me how to face my inner dragons, and to become more patient, kind, and dedicated.
My approach to art therefore encompasses the visual and the spiritual, merging my experimentation with colour and image with a practice that involves words of intention or prayer – a consciously embodied and emotional engagement that allows each piece to emerge out of a conversation with myself. The explosions of colour and mark-making that I use to create abstract images or portraits of people, animals, and nature express the wisdom I achieve through the creative process, celebrating what it means to be alive and connected to the world around us.
In recent years, I have also explored my Vietnamese-Chinese-Canadian identity, seeking to understand myself in a complicated social context. I was raised in a home that honoured its Asian heritage, but living in a small, largely white town in Alberta meant that I often felt unsure about my belonging. My art helps me to appreciate and articulate the Buddhist traditions I grew up with, as well as the truth of who I am in a society that does not always make room for Asian female artists. My images and my artistic process seek to liberate me from social expectations, using joyful colours, visual story-telling, and dynamic markings to suggest that we can tell the story of who we are in a world that is both mysterious and open to change.
